Subtracting Fractions unit contains 125 pages and 64 google slides designed for students with autism and special learning needs. This unit looks at subtracting fractions with and without common denominators as well as how to simplify your answer.
The book walks through the steps for subtracting fractions including:
There are 3 power cards for students to use while working through the unit. One outlines the steps of subtracting fractions. One card shows how to simplify an improper fraction. One card shows the steps of changing a mixed number to an improper fraction. There is also an example on each card for students to refer to.
There are 5 worksheet sets to help students work through the steps. The worksheets provide less and less support (fewer answers pre-filled in) as students go through them.
There is a separate file with daily group activities using the fractions cards included in the unit.
Finally, there is a quiz to assess understanding at the end of the unit.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated into these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.
♥As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have.
