Greatest Common Factor for Special Education PRINT and DIGITAL

Greatest Common Factor unit contains 102 pages and 36 google slides designed for students with autism and special learning needs. This unit looks at ways to find common factors, the greatest common factor, and how to identify prime numbers.

The book walks through the steps for finding common factors using:

• factor trees
• outside in charts
• listing multiples

There are 3 sizes of prime numbers charts in color and black and white for students to use throughout the unit.

There are 10 group activities for students to practice identifying factors of a number as well as prime numbers.

One of these group activities is playing a game of bingo. There are 20 bingo cards included with suggestions for 10 different ways to use them. These group activities are a great way to add engagement and also pull in some of those social and communication IEP goals while also doing math!!

There are 3 worksheet sets to help students practice finding the greatest common factor.

• 3 worksheets use factor trees
• 3 worksheets use outside in charts
• 5 worksheets practice finding the greatest common factor between 2 numbers

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated into these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.
