Complete Human Body Curriculum Special Education Human Body 12 Systems Anatomy

The Human Body Activities for Special Education includes all 12 major systems of the human body:

• 5 Senses
• Cardiovascular System
• Respiratory System
• Digestive System
• Muscular System
• Skeletal System
• Nervous System
• Circulatory System
• Endocrine System
• Immune System
• Integumentary System
• Urinary & Reproductive Systems

These human body activities contain 19 weeks of instruction specifically designed for students with special learning needs, especially autism, who are in middle and high school learning human anatomy and physiology.

These units address all 12 human body systems in a simplified but rigorous way for students with diverse learning needs to make meaningful and authentic connections to the material.

Students have many opportunities to learn about these systems repeatedly, which encourages a true understanding of their functions.

In addition, many human body activities and assessments include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation, and options for presentation.

Each Human Body Systems Unit Includes:

• Lesson plan
• Book with photos and simple text about that body system
• Vocabulary board
• Vocabulary cards and cut/paste activities

• Assessments (3 versions)

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.
