Relative Time Scavenger Hunt and Flash Cards for Special Education

Total Pages: 22
File Size: 1 MB

There are 24 different flashcards included in this unit. In addition each set is available in a differentiated version (using colored backgrounds) and a black and white version. They contain events that last a few minutes, a few hours, or a few days. If you are just starting to teach time of have students with special learning needs a scavenger hunt is a great way to keep students engaged. Tape the pictures up around the room and have students either collect them and sort them into piles back at their work area, or record them on the recording sheet that is provided. Understanding relative time is a crucial first step to understanding the concept of time and elapsed time.

See the preview for a detailed look at the contents.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, we can ask students questions that will push them to think more deeply than before.
