St Patrick’s Day Unit for Special Education PRINT and DIGITAL

This unit covers the basic history of St. Patrick’s Day plus some engaging/fun activities about the traditions of this holiday. There is a book that reviews who St. Patrick was and some common customs and traditions surrounding St. Patrick’s Day. Special care is taken to make this material accessible and engaging to those students with significant disabilities. Content is age-appropriate across most grade levels.

****There are now digital versions of all the activities included in this unit. There are 16 google slides (includes a set that is fully differentiated) and a movie version of the book you can assign in google classroom.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.
