Description

Measuring length unit contains over 120 pages that addresses the concept of measuring the length of various objects using the METRIC system. It first explores the appropriate unit of measure (centimeters, meters, and kilometers) and then introduces the concept of using a ruler. This material was specifically designed for students with special learning needs, especially autism. This unit on measuring length addresses various units of measurement and tools in a simplified but rigorous way for students with diverse learning needs to make meaningful and authentic connections to the material. There are many opportunities for students to engage in repeated information on measuring length. This repetition encourages true understanding of measuring length. Finally, many of the measuring length activities and assessments include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation and options for presentation.

See the preview for a detailed look at the contents.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.

♥As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have. Remember, you will gain credit toward future purchase on tpt as you leave more and more feedback!!

♥I am currently developing more units, and any feedback I get helps me make improvements in the future.

Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance in 2021. I updated this blog post and encourage you to revisit it and rethink your definition of tolerance. Meeting students where they are in a special education setting is so critical to building a foundation that will eventually grow not only into tolerance but the ultimate goal of inclusion and acceptance. Compassion. It can be tough to feel compassion du Compassion. It can be tough to feel compassion during difficult times. We may feel confused and scared by the events of January 6, 2021. Embrace that fully. Feel it deeply. But then move on. Move on to something more powerful and healing. . Sending kindness and compassion into the world will only make it and you better. Accepting we may never understand why people act in certain ways, and feeling compassion regardless can be so powerful and healing. . As we start a new day, embrace, and fully feel what it is like to have compassion for others. Let go of the anger and the blame. We can be strong and resilient in our kindness and compassion towards others.
