A Christmas Carol Novel Study for Special Ed with questions and read aloud

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is the focus of this novel unit for students with autism and special learning needs. Have you ever wanted to read a novel to your special education students but thought, there is no way they will sit and listen? Persevere, it is worth it!! This 140 page unit on the novel A Christmas Carol is designed for students who have significant disabilities and special learning needs. I was always reading a novel to my students, regardless of their learning level. The lesson of learning to sit while someone is talking is an invaluable skill that is worth teaching.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS NOVEL UNIT IS FOR STUDENTS WITH SIGNIFICANT DISABILITIES AND ARE EITHER EMERGING OR NON-READERS

This unit has various activities to accompany Dicken’s book, A Christmas Carol. The materials were designed to allow students with multiple levels of learning to access and engage in lessons learned through listening to this novel. There are many opportunities for students to engage in repeated information as Scrooge is transformed after being visited by 3 ghosts. This repetition encourages deeper engagement of the book. Finally, many activities include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation, and options for presentation. There are plenty of activities to go with each section/stave (27 different activities!!) to keep your students engaged while you read this novel aloud.

I have also started creating TWO SEPARATE FILES. One is completely in color and one is completely in black and white rather than combined together in one unit. This was a suggestion from a buyer, and I thought if it makes someone’s life easier, then I am all in! So, I hope you find this format easier to use and more printer-friendly. Even though there are more pages, the price has not increased.

***There are 10 comprehension questions for every stave (section). Each question has 3 picture choices for answers. There is an answer key included.
