One Giant Leap Neil Armstrong Buzz Aldrin Book Companion Activities

One Giant Leap by Robert Burleigh is the focus of this book companion for students with autism and special learning needs.

This unit has various print and digital activities to accompany the book One Giant Leap.

The materials are designed to allow students at multiple learning levels to access and engage with lessons learned from reading One Giant Leap.

There are many opportunities for students to listen to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s first steps on the Moon.

*****This unit includes 12 Google Slides and a version of the book read aloud. Perfect for an independent learning center.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated into these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities have time to engage with the material over several days to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than to the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, asking students good questions will push them to think more deeply than before.
