Description

The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies is the focus of this novel unit for students with autism and special learning needs. Have you ever wanted to read a novel to your special education students but thought, there is no way they will sit and listen? Persevere, it is worth it!! This 89 page unit on the novel The Lemonade War is designed for students who have significant disabilities and special learning needs. I was always reading a novel to my students, regardless of their learning level. The lesson of learning to sit while someone is talking is an invaluable skill that is worthwhile teaching.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS NOVEL UNIT IS FOR STUDENTS WITH SIGNIFICANT DISABILITIES AND ARE EITHER EMERGING OR NON-READERS

This unit has various activities to accompany Jacqueline Davies’s book, The Lemonade War. The materials were designed to allow students with multiple levels of learning to access and engage in lessons learned through listening to this novel. There are many opportunities for students to engage in repeated information on the end of summer adventures as two siblings make a bet who can sell more lemonade. This repetition encourages deeper engagement of the book. Finally, many of activities include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation and options for presentation. There is an activity (30 different activities!!) to go with each chapter as your students stay engaged while you read this novel aloud.

Starting with this unit, I have started adding an option to use when you want students to have to choose between correct and incorrect answers in some of the activities. I am still including an errorless version as well. Hopefully, this will address even more learning levels in your class!

See preview for the table of contents and a detailed look at what is included,

There are so many benefits to reading out loud to your students. You will teach them an invaluable skill of learning to sit still while someone else is talking. Your parents will also LOVE you for not only teaching them this skill of sitting, but also for exposing them to age appropriate material. Plus, you never know which students you will touch with each story you read.

♥As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have. Remember, you will gain credit toward future purchase on tpt as you leave more and more feedback!!

♥I am currently developing more units, and any feedback I get helps me make improvements in the future.

@fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post @fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post. HUGE SHOUT OUT to the amazing lengths teachers are going to this year. Keep shining that light!!!! 💕Today was the first day my kiddos were able to see me in costume for a lesson. In a regular year it’s a somewhat usual occurance—but as we all know this year has been different. • We used @love.mrs.liebscher s Multiplicative Pizzeria where students practiced their multiplicative word problem skills as they filled orders for the pizzeria. Finally, they were able to come up with their own multiplicative recipe and creat their own pizza! • Due to our current COV!D reality, each student’s individual place was set up with a red placemat for working, their work orders, and their own chef hat (made form construction paper. One of my favorite things is seeing how many of my kiddos end up wearing their chef hat all day 😂. It’s the cutest.

Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance in 2021. I updated this blog post and encourage you to revisit it and rethink your definition of tolerance. Meeting students where they are in a special education setting is so critical to building a foundation that will eventually grow not only into tolerance but the ultimate goal of inclusion and acceptance.
