Description

This letter of the week unit is different than many others you may come across. It is specifically designed for students with autism and other special learning needs. This letter of the week unit on letter O provides material in a simplified but rigorous way for students with diverse learning needs to make meaningful and authentic connections to the material. There are many opportunities for students and small groups to engage in repeated information on the letter O. This repetition encourages internalization of the letter of the week. Finally, the letter O activities allow for an opportunity to informally assess how well the student understands and can recall the information.

So what does this letter of the week unit include? ★A LOT!! There are over 100 pages of lesson plans, activities, books, printables, directions, and suggestions for differentiation.

See Preview for a detailed look at the contents of this unit.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Even when learning about the letter of the week, we can ask students questions that will push them to think more deeply than before.

♥As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have. Remember, you will gain credit toward future purchase on tpt as you leave more and more feedback!!

♥I am currently developing more units, and any feedback I get helps me make improvements in the future.

@fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post @fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post. HUGE SHOUT OUT to the amazing lengths teachers are going to this year. Keep shining that light!!!! 💕Today was the first day my kiddos were able to see me in costume for a lesson. In a regular year it’s a somewhat usual occurance—but as we all know this year has been different. • We used @love.mrs.liebscher s Multiplicative Pizzeria where students practiced their multiplicative word problem skills as they filled orders for the pizzeria. Finally, they were able to come up with their own multiplicative recipe and creat their own pizza! • Due to our current COV!D reality, each student’s individual place was set up with a red placemat for working, their work orders, and their own chef hat (made form construction paper. One of my favorite things is seeing how many of my kiddos end up wearing their chef hat all day 😂. It’s the cutest.

Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance in 2021. I updated this blog post and encourage you to revisit it and rethink your definition of tolerance. Meeting students where they are in a special education setting is so critical to building a foundation that will eventually grow not only into tolerance but the ultimate goal of inclusion and acceptance. Download this social story while you are there which is a great addition to your Martin Luther King Jr plans you may already have.
