This unit on Groundhog Day has almost 50 pages of printed material PLUS 16 google slides and movies for distance learning. It will probably take 1-2 days to complete depending on the learning level of your students. But, you can use the SAME material for students who are face to face as well as those who may still be in a remote learning setting.

The story addresses the history of Groundhog Day as well as some common facts about groundhogs.

Special effort was made to make the material rigorous but still engaging and accessible to students with autism and special learning needs.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material via several different presentations to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Even when learning about a specific letter, we can ask students questions that will push them to think more deeply than before.

As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have.

I am currently developing more units, and any feedback I get helps me make improvements in the future. Plus, it just means a lot to me.
