Description

Fractions can be tough to teach, especially in special education. This collection of fraction activities contains over 40 pages of material PLUS 30 google slides specifically designed for students with special learning needs, especially autism. This unit on fractions addresses the characteristics of fractions in a simplified but rigorous way for students with diverse learning needs to make meaningful and authentic connections to the material whether learning about quarters, thirds, or halves. There are many opportunities for students to engage in repeated information on different fractions. This repetition encourages true understanding of fractions as a number with a specific quantity. Finally, many of the fraction activities include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation and options for presentation.

The digital activities were created using google slides and can be used with google classroom.

Each digital activity comes in 2 versions. The original plus one with color-coding to add more visual support for students who need the extra help. There is also a link to a movie version of both books included in the unit that students can watch online.

There are directions on how to access the digital activities and movie in a pdf included in this unit. There are also suggestions on the easiest way to assign the appropriate activities to each student.

See the preview for a detailed look at the contents.

@fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post @fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post. HUGE SHOUT OUT to the amazing lengths teachers are going to this year. Keep shining that light!!!! 💕Today was the first day my kiddos were able to see me in costume for a lesson. In a regular year it’s a somewhat usual occurance—but as we all know this year has been different. • We used @love.mrs.liebscher s Multiplicative Pizzeria where students practiced their multiplicative word problem skills as they filled orders for the pizzeria. Finally, they were able to come up with their own multiplicative recipe and creat their own pizza! • Due to our current COV!D reality, each student’s individual place was set up with a red placemat for working, their work orders, and their own chef hat (made form construction paper. One of my favorite things is seeing how many of my kiddos end up wearing their chef hat all day 😂. It’s the cutest.

Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance in 2021. I updated this blog post and encourage you to revisit it and rethink your definition of tolerance. Meeting students where they are in a special education setting is so critical to building a foundation that will eventually grow not only into tolerance but the ultimate goal of inclusion and acceptance.
