Description

This spelling unit on -at words was developed for students with autism and special learning needs. This unit has over 75 pages of activities and lessons plans for a one week (or more) unit spelling. The activities comes with suggestions for differentiation so even non-readers can participate in the group lesson using the same materials. Many of the activities also use real photos AND picture symbols for more practice opportunities.

You can save 20% and get all 9 units in my short a spelling bundle by clicking HERE.

✩✩✩This unit is NOT for students with mild learning challenges and just need more support. This unit is for students who have SIGNIFICANT challenges but are required (and deserve) to access the regular education content.✩✩✩

✩✩✩ Thanks to a suggestion from a buyer, I am now going to be including a detailed lesson plans with lots of suggested activities you can do with the included materials. If you find this helpful, be sure to let me know in the feedback. I may go back and add this to many of my other units.

See the preview for a more detailed look at the contents.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated in these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to fully assimilate what is being taught. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, if we can ask students good questions it will push them to think more deeply than before.

♥As always please take a moment to leave feedback or post any questions you may have. Remember, you will gain credit toward future purchase on tpt as you leave more and more feedback!!

♥I am currently developing more units, and any feedback I get helps me make improvements in the future. Plus, it just means a lot to me.

@fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post @fantasticallyfourth so inspired me with this post. HUGE SHOUT OUT to the amazing lengths teachers are going to this year. Keep shining that light!!!! 💕Today was the first day my kiddos were able to see me in costume for a lesson. In a regular year it’s a somewhat usual occurance—but as we all know this year has been different. • We used @love.mrs.liebscher s Multiplicative Pizzeria where students practiced their multiplicative word problem skills as they filled orders for the pizzeria. Finally, they were able to come up with their own multiplicative recipe and creat their own pizza! • Due to our current COV!D reality, each student’s individual place was set up with a red placemat for working, their work orders, and their own chef hat (made form construction paper. One of my favorite things is seeing how many of my kiddos end up wearing their chef hat all day 😂. It’s the cutest.

Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance Share with a teacher you know!!Teaching tolerance in 2021. I updated this blog post and encourage you to revisit it and rethink your definition of tolerance. Meeting students where they are in a special education setting is so critical to building a foundation that will eventually grow not only into tolerance but the ultimate goal of inclusion and acceptance. Download this social story while you are there which is a great addition to your Martin Luther King Jr plans you may already have.
